SMS Opt-In Process
TurnipCare provides appointment-scheduling software to healthcare practices. Practices use TurnipCare to send appointment-related text messages (scheduling, confirmations, reminders, rescheduling) to patients who have opted in. No protected health information (PHI), diagnoses, or test results are sent via SMS.
How patients opt in
Patients opt in to text messages during the patient intake or registration process at their healthcare practice — on a written or digital intake form — or verbally with office staff when scheduling an appointment. SMS consent is collected via a standalone, optional checkbox that is unchecked by default and presented separately from all treatment and billing consents.
The intake form consent language reads exactly as follows:

Consent is not a condition of receiving care or any services from the practice. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies. Reply STOP to opt out at any time. Reply HELP for help. Program disclosures
Consent is optional: Patients receive full care and services whether or not they opt in. Declining SMS consent has no effect on the ability to schedule appointments or receive care.
Message frequency: Varies based on scheduling activity (typically 1–5 messages per scheduled appointment).
Message and data rates may apply.
Opt-out: Text STOP at any time to cancel. You will receive a one-time confirmation that you've been unsubscribed, and no further messages will be sent.

Privacy: Mobile numbers and SMS opt-in data are not sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Consent records (date, time, and method of opt-in) are maintained by the healthcare practice.
